About Me

Rachel Walton is an Associate Professor, Librarian and Head of Library Digital Strategies & Scholarly Communication for the Olin Library.

As a librarian and archivist at Olin Library, Rachel works with students from a variety of disciplines to support their overall research and learning.

She is a graduate of the University of Florida where she received both her bachelor’s in History and Art History and a master’s in Latin American History. In 2015 she received her second masters in Library Science at UNC Chapel Hill, with a specialization in digital curation.

Rachel is a Certified Archivist with expertise in digital curation and preservation, curating online collections, and managing electronic records. She oversees the library’s institutional repository, digital asset management system, and digital publishing platform. In collaboration with multiple library teams, Rachel also leads efforts to digitize, organize, and provide online access to distinctive digital resources from the College Archives.

Most recently, Rachel is spearheading campus-wide initiatives related to Open Educational Resources (OER) and textbook affordability in an effort to reduce the cost of course materials for students. Her professional research interests include website usability, research data management, digital humanities, repository management strategies, and primary source literacy and instruction best practices.

When she’s not working, Rachel likes sipping cappuccinos, planning vacations with her family, and getting out in the Florida sunshine.
