Small Group PowerPoint Presentation to Bike/Walk Central Florida Board

This is a 10-minute small group presentation to the “Board” of Bike/Walk Central Florida, with another 3 minutes anticipated of Q&A from the board after each presentation. It represents 15% of your final grade, and students will be assigned into groups of two. Your group will select a neighborhood or intersection in Central Florida (see me for approval), then suggest improvements to that location with an eye to improving its walkability, including public transportation access, feasibility, health, and personal safety.[1] 

Groups must meet with the professor by close of Week #10 to discuss their plans. Presentations should include an introduction, established knowledge base, conceptual orientation, critical analysis, and conclusions, per description below. The A report successfully employs each of these five components, whereas the B report incorporates four of the five, and the C report three of the five, etc.

1. Introduction

-- tell us why this neighborhood or intersection is notable AND interesting

2. Established knowledge base

-- what are the fundamental facts the rest of the class needs in order to understand here

-- remember your time constraints demand a concise approach here

-- the five w’s of reporting may serve as your guide: who, what, when, where, and why/how

3. Conceptual orientation and cohesion

-- this is often the difference between an A and a B report…or a B and C report

-- explain how core principles that we have discussed in class relate to your location

-- your case may either support or challenge an existing theory, but be explicit here

4. Critical analysis

-- here is your chance to shine and, again, this point also often distinguishes A from B work

-- analysis of neighborhood or intersection status, including if it may be replicated elsewhere

-- if problems are highlighted, prospects for its resolution

5. Conclusions

-- what specific suggestions or predictions do you offer

-- highlight a couple discussion questions for the rest of class to consider
