Sexual Assault Awareness Month exists to increase awareness of sexual assault, abuse, and harassment; create change that prevents this violence; and advocate for and empower survivors.
April 2025 will mark the 24th anniversary of SAAM, but it has deep roots that extend to the Civil Rights Movement and earlier. As the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) states: "As long as there have been people who care about making the world a better place, there have been individuals advocating for sexual assault prevention."
